An estimated of 150 people dressed as Santa Claus hit the waters in Queensland's iconic Gold Coast on Sunday (November 29) in a charity run for Australian children in residential care.
A video obtained by Reuters showed a parade of jetskis going up and down the Nerang River in Gold Coast, with its riders dressed as a crew of Santa Clauses who ditched their sleighs and reindeers for personal watercrafts. Organiser Jane Padden told Reuters that the event raised nearly A$10,000 ($7,000) for her charity, Christmas Presents for Kids in Care. The parade was held in an attempt to break the previous record of 129 jetskis in a parade held in 2014.
"We got a lot of jetskis on the Gold Coast here," Padden said. "We had a lot of people on the Gold Coast that were for it and it was just a really lovely response from the Gold Coast."
Padden added that she is planning to organise the parade and break the world record again next year. "Every year we're hoping to have it be bigger and bigger," she said.
