A Santa in the small Oregon town of Silverton has been making COVID-safe visits with the local children this holiday season by interacting through a clear plastic tent dubbed the 'Santa Pod'.
Santa set up his plastic 'bubble' in an open-air storefront downtown the day after the American holiday of Thanksgiving in late November, says the local NBC station.
The bubble allows him to interact with children closely and without having to wear a mask, helping to regain some of the magic of Christmas that may have been lost during the pandemic as communities continue to socially isolate.
Santa told the NBC station the children do notice the plastic divider at first but that they eventually forget about it altogether and that their interaction can be close.
The Santa Pod will be packed up in a few days and Santa will return to the North Pole, NBC said. But until then, the children will be able to tell Santa what they want for Christmas up close and personal the way Christmas was meant to be.
