A large plume of smoke was seen rising from a port near the Irish city of Cork on Saturday (January 9). Local media reported firefighters battled a blaze that broke out at a grain facility at the port.
There were no reports of casualties, the Irish Times reported. Video posted on social media showed the cloud of smoke was visible across Cork Harbour. The port recently started offering more "Brexit-proof" direct sailings to mainland Europe.
Ferry companies have increased direct freight services between Ireland and France in response to demand for an alternative route to the British "land-bridge" used by around 3,000 lorries each week to ship goods to and from mainland Europe.
